Hiking Sierra Nevada 2-1

It is a great program to start exploring the beautiful countryside of the Alpujarras, very similar to the Nepalese landscape.
The walks start in the Lecrin Valley, full of orange groves, and continues up the hill just opposite the south face of Sierra Nevada, between the snow-capped mountains and the Mediterranean Sea: Haza del Lino.
We can view a breathtaking panoramic  of the Alpujarras.
The hikes are medium short-range hikes which allow us to have a cultural activity in the afternoon.

Visiting a drying Serrano Ham producer and tasting it, wholesale fish market auction, lunch at rural restaurant overlooking the reservoir, and the tapas tour are some of your cultural activities!

Day 1

Mecina Fondales-Trevelez river-Ferreira-Mecina Fondales

Distance:  7 km / Duration:  five hours / Level of difficulty: moderate / Type : circular

The walk starts in Moorish Mecina Fondales, with white-washed houses, then takes you to a picturesque moorish hamlet, through a forest of  oaks and past various crumbling flour mills, before descending to the pretty bridge crossing the  Trevelez river course. In spring the gorse and broom come into bloom, producing a sea of bright yellow flowers. Then up to the opposite hill where we will have a rest to sample wine and  local products while  overlooking the whole “ live”  painting of the Alpujarras.

Lunch at Mecina Fondales country hotel

Cultural activity: visit a drying serrano ham shed (secadero) and tasting

Day 2

Haza del Lino-Cerro de la Longaniza-Haza del Lino

Distance: 5 kmDuration: three hoursLevel of difficulty: easyType: going up and coming back on the same path

This is a moderate walk, with some steep uphill sections near the start, before it levels off at the end and then on to El Cerro de la Longaniza  and descends to Haza del Lino again. We will go through the most southern  cork oak in Europoe. The walk uses good paths and dirt roads, so it is generally fairly easy underfoot. The most outstanding feature is the view of the whole Alpujarras area and the Mediterranean Sea.  We will have wine and local products tasting enjoying the magnificent view.

Lunch at Cuatro Vientos winery.

Cultural activity:  auction at the wholesale  fish market in Motril, on the coast. Visit to an organic cherry tomato greenhouse.

Day 3

The Lecrin Valley: Murchas- Melegís-Restabal-Murchas

Distance: 7 km / Duration: three hours / Level of difficulty: easy / Type: circular

A very pleasant stroll through the orange groves of the Lecrín Valley. This circuit starts in the pretty, white village of Murchas, and also takes in the Béznar reservoir. Ashort, easy walk, suitable for most people. We can go all year round, but a particularly good option is in winter – due to the Lecrín Valley’s agreeable micro-climate; the weather here tends to be much milder than in other inland parts of Granada province. You can enjoy the amazing contrast of orange and green colors of the orange trees.

Lunch: at Los Naranjos rural restaurant, among orange groves and overlooking the Béznar reservoir.

Cultural activity: tapas tour in Granada.

Accomodation: Lanjarón Spa Hotel**** (a newly-opened rural hotel)
