It is perfect for smooth hiking or walking through their several tracks which leads you along its cool stream and riverine forest, you will find its beautiful views of other mountain ranges in the province quite spectacular.
You will spend the weekend surrounded by nature, and enjoy it by taking an Andalusian cooking workshop class, cycle to a Mediterranean white village. In this remote village they keep on producing traditional – all natural – homemade chorizos, sausages, and honey.

The Natural Park of the Mountains of Malaga is located 18 km north of the city of Malaga; its maximum altitude is 1,031 m above sea level with an area of 4,995 hectares. It is lined by small valleys carpeted with pine, cork and oak.
Regarding the fauna, there are several protected species such as the weasel, polecat, chameleon, short-toed eagle, booted eagle, goshawk, buzzard and the eagle owl, the largest nocturnal bird of prey  . We can also find wild boar and other species of mammals, birds, reptiles.

 

Day 1

Directly from the airport you will be taken to the hotel, located in the middle of nature. It´s a remote and beautiful spot on the mountains, accessible only by car. Fabulous if you like walking in the hills, there are plenty of hiking paths

Dinner: You will have  the dishes cooked in the workshop. After dinner, spend your time by the fireplace or in the open air terrace watching the stars

Day 2

Leave behind fixed schedules and replace them with activities in nature

Colmenar is a white village north of the Axarquia region, known as the capital of the Montes de Malaga, famous for its cured meats and sausages, for the quality of meat, for their Honey Museum.

After breakfast enjoy a cycle ride from the Fuente de la Reina, 1000 m altitude, to Colmenar a small town, 17 km.

To go up to Colmenar means to enjoy a beautiful scenery at the foot of the Sierra del Camarolo, the fields of wheat turning from green to yellowish  until harvest, and the beautiful view of the village with the Church de la Candelaria and Church of the Assumption.

Then afterwards a unique fun-activity. The Honey Route, a cultural and environmental route.

The walk takes place near the village along the Honey footpath, observing the blooming of plants, how bees contribute to the conservation of species, and also studying recent history of Malaga Mountains and the history of Colmenar. Along your walking excursion you will visit the facilities of the Honey Museum, where beekeepers experts will explain the world of bees, beekeeping products, and the delicious and healthy products they help produce.

  • See and take part of local working hives. For the visit to the beehives, you need to wear ankle-covering boots. All other protective clothing and equipment is provided.
  • You will get involved in the tasting of different types of honey produced in the province of Málaga
  • Workshop where you’ll have the chance to make candles out of bees wax
  • The walk ends in a local restaurant with a menu of tasty dishes cooked with Malaga honey

In the afternoon visit the Cattlemen’s Malaga Mountains Association, where you will get to know about the history and development of the known Spanish goat cheese and see its making

Day 3

Begin your day with a 10 km hike  through Malaga mountains

Later in the morning you will have a guided visit to an organic winery and get familiar with the production of white, sweet and red wines.
The family keeps the same tradition of winemaking in the Montes de Málaga since the eighteenth century.
Wine tasting and Andalusian tapas lunch at the family’s bodega

Return to hotel, relax or take pleasure in a Spanish siesta 

In the afternoon, stay in the hotel enjoying while learning

  • Local herbs. The different mixtures for medicinal or cooking herbs. Smell them, Taste them
  • Cheese making. A local expert of l’appellation d’origine controle for Malagas mountain goat cheese producers will assist you on developing a 350grms cheese (approx.)

Transfer to the airport and farewell
