Camino de Santiago de Compostela or The Way of St. James
To be done independently at your own rhythm.
A six night journey across “El Camino” – tracing parts of the Way of St. James – the historic pilgrims’ trail across northern Spain to its destination at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela (built in the 11th Century and listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1985). Santiago de Compostela is the reputed burial-place of James the Apostle.

Arrival to Sarria and night in Sarria.
Sarria – Portomarin
Starting out on the Camino directly from the hotel we begin our 24.8km walk into the town of Portomarin.
Portomarin – Palas De Rei
We leave Portomarin for a 25.8km walk through rolling countryside, over unpaved tracks through small villages where we can replenish our water supply from the mountain springs. Arrival to Palas de Rei.
Palas De Rei-Melide-Arzua
The longest walking part of the trip begins today with a ﬂat, beautiful 26km journey through
forests and small hamlets. We can stop briefly in Melide to sample the famous Galician pulpo (octopus). Arrival to Arzua.
Anticipation builds as we approach Santiago de Compostela. The 22km walk today is varied
with gentle climbs and descents alternating with ﬂat stretches. We will visit the beautiful church
in Boente before continuing on to the town of Arzua, renown for its artisan cheeses. Arrival to Lavacolla.
Lavacolla-Santiago De Compostela
Today is the ﬁnal leg of our pilgrimage. The 20km walk passes through forests, over medieval
bridges, and then through the outskirts of Santiago de Compostela, and finally to the centre of
one of Spain’s most iconic cities. We have made it!
